Family Preparedness & Resilience Day

From Eric Zohar & Yariv Ben-Ari

On Sunday, October 11, we are bringing our families and communities together for something that means a great deal to both of us: our first Family Preparedness & Resilience Day.

We created this day because we share a simple belief: the people we love deserve more than our good intentions. They deserve for us to be prepared.

Between the two of us, we have spent years teaching people how to protect themselves, respond to emergencies, and remain calm when circumstances suddenly become anything but calm. But this program is different. It isn’t about becoming a warrior or preparing for combat. It is about something much more personal: being better prepared to take care of your family, your friends, and the people around you when they need you most.

October 7 changed the way many of us think about preparedness.

That day in Israel, ordinary civilians suddenly found themselves becoming first responders. People with no warning and, in many cases, no special training used local knowledge, clear thinking, initiative, courage, and responsibility for one another to save lives.

We cannot know what the next emergency will look like. It could be violence, a medical emergency, a natural disaster, a communications failure, an evacuation, or something none of us anticipated.

What we can do is prepare ourselves and our families to respond.

At Zohar Tactical, Eric has long lived by the words “Fortune Favors the Prepared.” At 50B EDC, Yariv teaches that preparedness carries with it a responsibility to train and develop the skills to act when they are needed. Those two ideas are at the heart of this day.

Our goal is not to make you afraid of what might happen. Our goal is to give you greater confidence in what you can do if something does happen.

During this hands-on, family-centered day, we will work together on recognizing danger before it escalates; controlling life-threatening bleeding and providing basic emergency medical care; creating a realistic 24–72-hour family preparedness and communications plan; communicating when normal systems fail; evacuating, sheltering, staying together and adapting when the original plan no longer works; and learning practical basic self-defense skills.

There is one principle we want every participant to leave with:

You cannot predict the emergency.
You can prepare your family to respond to it.

And when something goes terribly wrong, the safest mindset may be to assume that, at least initially, no one is coming to help you. Be prepared to help yourself, your family, and the people around you until help arrives.

Most importantly, we want families to experience this together. Parents, spouses, siblings and children age 16 and older will train alongside one another, because preparedness works best when everyone understands the plan.

We hope you will join us.
